Hypo-gun

A loaded hypo-gun ready for use.

A hypo-gun or hypogun is a small hand-held piece of medical technology used in the 23rd century. It can inject medicine into a humanoid's bloodstream like a hypospray.

Uses[]

In 2265, Elizabeth Dehner gave Gary Mitchell a sedative on Delta Vega I with a hypogun. (TOS - Star Trek 8 novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before)

In 2267, Leonard McCoy loaded nerve gas into a hypo-gun, intending to use it against escaped prisoners from the penal colony on Certax who had come aboard the USS Enterprise. Unfortunately, he found them wearing environmental suits which the hypo-gun couldn't puncture. McCoy resorted to using a syringe. (TOS comic: "Prison Break")

In 2273 of the Phase II continuity, McCoy administered a sedative with a hypo-gun to Christine Chapel, whose mind had been reduced to a feral state due to radiation exposure from nearby orbiting mines. (Phase II episode: "Savage Syndrome")
