IDIC is a Federation Standard language acronym for the Vulcan philosophy of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. The Vulcan language name for this is Kol-Ut-Shan. (TOS episode: "Is There in Truth No Beauty?"; ENT episodes: "Awakening", "The Forge"; VOY episode: "Gravity")

Spock once cited the Vulcan culture of an alternate timeline, as evidenced by the Vulcan ship VHC Muroc's inferior design to that of concurrent Federation starship designs, as an illustration of the truth of the IDIC philosophy. (DTI novel: Forgotten History) Upon being shunted into the Kelvin timeline, he began comparing and contrasting it to his own, noting the changes that went beyond his and Nero's arrival were inevitable when one considered the infinite nature of alternate timelines. When Nyota Uhura idly speculated about remaining on New Vulcan and the recent changes in the lives of their close friends, Spock realized she was speaking about IDIC, briefly explaining the concept and how he regarded it as an interesting thought experiment. (TOS - IDIC comic: "Part 1")
