The epilogue in the fifth issue and the entire sixth issue then tied the entire series together. The omnibus of this series was released in September 2007.

In addition to the release of individual issues IDW have also reprinted all their Star Trek comics in omnibus books - approximately three months after the release of the final issue of each miniseries.

The omnibuses contain all the issues of the miniseries, plus cover galleries to display all the available covers for the issues and some additional content that was printed with the original issues, such as behind the scenes development sketches.

Archives and Omnibus series

Starting from September 2008 IDW also began to publish omnibus books of older Star Trek comics from previous Star Trek comic book publishers. This started with a series called Star Trek Archives which collected four to five assorted issues based on a theme.

Following on from the Archives series IDW will be publishing larger omnibuses of pre-IDW comics in a series dubbed "Star Trek Omnibus". IDW have announced three of these books to date: A collection of Marvel Comics' first Star Trek series (issues 4-18), the complete Early Voyages series, and a collection Star Trek movie comic adaptations (including the original Marvel issues 1-3 adaptation of The Motion Picture and IDW's new adaptation of The Wrath of Khan).

Possible future series

IDW currently only holds the licenses for the two most popular Trek series; TOS and TNG, and are continuing to test the waters with various projects before considering expansion into other series. The company have the right of first refusal to the rest of franchise should they later decide to expand out from those two series. The current licences include the full breadth of both series and spin-offs so IDW could do, and are doing, stories in the era of Captain Pike and comics from the New Frontier series. [5]

IDW editor Andrew Steven Harris has suggested the company plan to work on some sort of collaborative project with Pocket Books - the first hint of this collaboration is the The Last Generation miniseries, which will be relased under the Myriad Universes manner begun by Pocket. Andrew Steven Harris has stated that "Titan and DS9 are the two far-and-away front-runners" for series IDW might wish to develop, and his successor Andrew Schmidt has also hinted at Titan, as well Excelsior/Sulu stories. [6][7]

Further TOS and TNG titles

Following on from their first two Year Four miniseries' IDW have vague plans for two more Year Four miniseries, making a total of twenty-two issues over the four minis, equivalent to a full season of The Original Series. After that they plan to continue on to Year Five miniseries’. [8]

John Byrne is developing several projects for IDW; In addition to those listed in the forthcoming section above he has at least one other miniseries and a two-part story in the works.[9]

Beyond 2008, IDW are currently developing an idea for a post-Nemesis TNG series, working with an unspecified individual who has previously worked on Star Trek projects form Marvel and DC comics. This series could start sometime in early-2009. [10]

The company has also made clear an intention to publish an adaptation of the new Star Trek movie. And beyond the tie-in already annouced, Countdown, Roberto Orci has noted plans for further tie-ins in the works. [11]

When Mirror Images was first announced it was also suggested that there would be a TNG mirror universe series to follow. However that series was pushed back in favour of the Myriad Universe miniseries The Last Generation and might not now be going ahead.

Announced in Focus on... Star Trek another project possibly in the works is Probability Factor, a six issue miniseries, three issue TOS and three TNG. The series was to tell "What if?" stories exploring episodes that might have been is some factor had changed. The episodes choose for the alternate universe treatment were to be selected by and voted for by fans. However since its initial announcement no further news on the series has been announced, while other new miniseries (including a different alternate timeline story - The Last Generation) have gone ahead.

Deep Space Nine

Andrew Steven Harris, David Tischman and Dan Taylor have all expressed an interest in a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine comic series, with Harris identifying the series as his favorite, and acknowledging a great deal of demand from the fan-base ("easily the most requested series"). Harris has commented "I would give up a year of watching baseball if it meant we could do new stories for DS9. But, as they say, you never know, so keep your eyes peeled. [12][13][14][15].

IDW tested the market for DS9 products in the form of the DS9 volume of the Star Trek Archives omnibuses in 2009.

In June 2009, David Messina commented "I really like Sisko from Deep Space Nine... I drew Sisko in a small panel in the second issue of Klingons. But IDW doesn't have the rights to publish Deep Space Nine. I would have liked to draw a story about Sisko. [16]

In July 2009, Andrew Steven Harris wrote in his blog that IDW may announce a DS9 comic at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con. Harris also stated that the new comics, likely to focus on the Dominion War, could be in stores by the end of the year, or in 2010. [17]

Voyager and Enterprise

On Voyager comics Andrew Steven Harris has stated they are currently unlikely to happen any time soon if at all. Enterprise comics have a similar, if not worse, Dan Taylor noted likeness approvals for Scott Bakula/Jonathan Archer are problematic[18]. Enterprise, being the series with the smallest fanbase, would also make such a venture risky, ie. developing comics on a series that may be less commercially successful. [19]
