The IKF Falchion was a Klingon Empire bird-of-prey starship, a D32-class cruiser in Klingon Defense Force service in the mid-23rd century.

Service history and disposition[]

The Falchion was captained by Commander Kyron gentai-Hann, and was among the earliest Klingon vessels known to be equipped with a cloaking device. By stardate 5302.1, the Falchion had been assigned to a border patrol in the vicinity of the Belenii star system for almost two years, specifically 451 Klingon days.

Kyron would be the last Klingon commanding officer of Falchion, he and his crew were slaughtered by Ravens, leaving the ship to be captured by a Federation Starfleet prize crew led by Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu. Under Sulu's command, Falchion was instrumental in defeating the Raven threat at Wagner Trading Post, which had been similarly taken over. (TOS novel: Dreams of the Raven)

In the novel, the Falchion was described as a cruiser and shown on the cover art to have the configuration of a late-23rd century Klingon bird-of-prey. This indicates that the ship belongs to the D32 class, as described in the FASA RPG module: Klingon Ship Recognition Manual, as it was the only cruiser-classified bird-of-prey known to be built that early the 23rd century, specified as the earliest of its kind. The designation "IKF" is a departure from the more common prefix "IKS" introduced in the ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia.
