The IKS Birok was a 25th century Klingon Empire starship, a tier 5-rated Birok-class heavy raptor in Klingon Defense Force service by the 2400s decade. (STO - Empire mission: "The Hunt is On")
Service history and disposition[]
The KDF operated the Birok class as strike cruisers as early as the 2320s decade. (TLE novel: The Art of the Impossible)
The IKS[3] Birok was active by 2409. In that year, the Birok class was rated as a tier 5 raptor, specifically heavy raptor, a type of KDF escort. The class shared its capabilities with its heavy raptor counterpart, the Qin-class IKS Qin. (STO - Empire mission: "The Hunt is On")
During the Iconian War, the allies of the Khitomer Alliance commissioned modernized iterations of their escort classes. The KDF contributed the tier 6-rated Qa'Tel-class flight deck raptor. These flight-deck carriers combined the maneuverability of escorts with a hangar bay typical of carriers. The ships that the new Alliance classes were based on could be deployed with the improved capabilities, including the Birok and Qin. (STO website: The Iconian War: Heavy Escort Carriers)
From 2410 onwards, the Birok represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy.
