The IKS Klolode (registry IKC-4176) was a D7-class Klingon battle cruiser starship in Imperial Klingon Defense Force service in the 23rd century, operational in the 2260s commanded by Captain Kang in 2268. (ST novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)
This vessel was heavily damaged by (*) in 2268, which killed most of the crew. The surviving members of the crew were forced to abandon the ship, and were beamed on board the USS Enterprise. The Klingon's ship was so severely damaged that it was a hazard to the area, and Captain James T. Kirk ordered its destruction. (TOS episode: "Day of the Dove"; TOS comic: "Blood Reign O'er Me"; DS9 novel: The Fall of Terok Nor)
Names
In tlhIngan Hol, its name is spelled tlhol'oD. However, the ship seems to have had multiple designations, since it is alternately known as the IKS Voh'tahk (vo'taq) or IKS Ch'dan (chIDan), the latter of which is possibly short for chIch DanwI’ "purposeful occupier". One or more of its names was also translated from Klingonese as Thousand-Taloned Death (tlhIngan Hol: SaDpachHegh).
- Many early fan publications stated that the Klolode was the name of the D7-class battle cruiser commanded by Kang in TOS episode: "Day of the Dove". The name Voh'tahk comes from the 2007 comic. The Decipher RPG module: Starships uses the name IKS Ch'dan. The early fan publications that identified the vessel as the IKS Klolode led to Kang's new command in the novel Pawns and Symbols being named the IKS Klolode II and for this vessel to be established as Klolode in Forged in Fire. It was called the Thousand-Taloned Death in "The Fall of Terok Nor", which can be assumed to be a translation of one of this vessel's names.
