The IKS Kronos One (IKC-7748) was a 23rd century Klingon starship, a K't'inga-class battlecruiser in Imperial Defense Force service in the 2290s decade. Under the command of General Chang, the Kronos One served as the transport vessel for Gorkon, Chancellor of the High Council of the Klingon Empire. (TOS movie: The Undiscovered Country)

It is unknown whether "Kronos One" was the vessel's permanent name or a temporary code designation for the diplomatic mission.

Kronos One hit

The Kronos One is hit.

Following the Praxis disaster in the year 2293, the Klingon Empire was willing to negotiate peace with the United Federation of Planets. General Chang, in command of the Kronos One, conspired with Starfleet Admiral Lance Cartwright and Romulan Ambassador Nanclus to torpedo the negotiations.

The Kronos One prepares to fire.

The Kronos One carried Chancellor Gorkon and his daughter Azetbur through Federation space, to be accompanied by the Federation's own flagship USS Enterprise-A. The flagship for the Empire in that time of emergency, the Kronos One approached the Enterprise-A in a non-aggressive posture, being the first cruiser of its type in Klingon history to do so at a close range while not at alert status. The starship Enterprise then proceeded to escort Kronos One to Earth.

While under escort of the Enterprise-A, operatives of a covert alliance between factions of both Starfleet and the Klingon High Command carried out the assassination of Gorkon en route. The Kronos One lost artificial gravity, rendering the crew unable to man battlestations, with the vessel surviving after two direct photon torpedo impacts from the nearby, cloaked IKS Dakronh, also controlled by General Chang. After restoring its systems, the Kronos One assumed an aggressive posture and energized its weapons. The Enterprise-A, suspected of the attack, surrendered.

Chang was later identified as the true culprit and the conspiracy exposed. Azetbur, the new chancellor of the Empire, secured peace with the Federation. (TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

Legacy[]

Kronos One

Kronos One in 2411.

The Kronos One - or a replica - were active in the 25th century. In the 2410s, the Kronos One represented a particular hull material configuration for K't'inga-class battlecruisers in Khitomer Alliance service. (STO - Empire mission: "First City")

In the 2360s, Chancellor K'mpec considered creating a Kronos One-inspired variant of the Vor'cha-class battlecruiser. The design was realized as IKS Qo'noS One in the year 2411. (STO website: House Reborn : The Legendary Vor'cha Command Support Battlecruiser)
