The IKS Tagana was a Klingon Imperial Defense Force starship in the 24th century. In 2370, the Tagana was under the control of Qua'lon of the House of SepIch.

Qua'lon gave this ship, along with some of his warriors, to Gowron to find the murderer of Torghn, son of Kmpok. The ship's bridge was manned by three of Gowron's warriors, such as chaqI and Qugh, and two of Qua'lon's, such as veteran Ler'at. Gowron with Pok, son of Torghn came to the ship as it was being prepared for launch. According to the custom of formal challenge, Qugh pushed Ler'at away from the operations console, removing him to the navigation console. Pok repeated the process and wrested navigation from Ler'at.

Their first stop was the planet Balka, which they reached the next morning, hoping to find a trace of the Romulan assassin probe. With information gathered there by Gowron about Toofa, a Pakled ship, the Tagana managed to overtake it within three hours. The captain was beamed on board and after a brief interrogation they learned that Meska the bartender and arms dealer on Balka had bought from him. In the meantime, T'lak, bribed by the bartender, had installed a detonator behind a panel on the bridge.

Back on Balka, they found that the bartender had fled, and, after T'lak's treachery was revealed, they found leads to Galor. Gowron brought with him Aleria, a human singer and associate of Meska. During the confrontation with Meska's ship, the detonator was activated, and the singer, revealing she served Meska all along, lowered the shields and was beamed to his ship. To obey his blood oath, Gowron destroys Meska's ship, killing the arm dealers of the Romulan probe; the singer, in vain attempted to save their lives by revealing that they sold the probe to a noble house of Taganika. Pok later managed to guess correctly the disarming code for the detonator, saving the ship.

The ship then set course back to Taganika in order to find those who bought from the arms dealers, and responsible for the assassination attempt. (TNG novelization: Klingon)
