For other uses, see Areinnye.

The IRW Areinnye was a Romulan starship, a Mogai-class heavy warbird in Romulan Star Empire and Tal Shiar service in the 2400s decade. Its commanding officer was the equally imperious and ruthless Commander Taelus. (STO - Borg Advance mission: "Where Angels Fear to Tread")

History

The ship was named for the Romulan language term for "hell". (TOS - Rihannsu: The Bloodwing Voyages novel: The Romulan Way)

The Areinnye experimented with Borg technology, and held Romulan Republican Force officers captive in the medbay. Some of them were infected with Borg nanoprobes.

In 2409, the Areinnye and a squadron of Tal Shiar T'varo-class light warbirds came under attack by a Borg Collective fleet in the Burgus system. Taelus dispatched a distress call, which was answered by an Alliance vessel, and later, Commander Genn of the Romulan Republic, and Commander Talem of the Tal Shiar.

While the escort squadron was lost, the Allied ship repelled the Borg ships. Taelus and some of her crew retreated to a lab and asked the Allies for help aboard. An away team transported to the Areinnye and joined the crew in fighting back Borg drones and infected drones. The Allies found Borg technology integrated with ship's systems, and had to kill RRF officers turned into drones in medbay. However, several surviving RRF officers were rescued, including an uhlan explaining that they had been experimented upon.

In the labs, the Allies joined forces with Taelus and her science officer centurions, fighting back several waves of incoming drones, including elite tactical drones. When the Borg ceased attacking, the Allies scanned two pieces of Borg technology and were ordered to leave by Commander Taelus.

The Allies engaged the Borg while the Areinnye, still damaged from the earlier battle, prepared to escape. (STO - Borg Advance mission: "Where Angels Fear to Tread")

Appendices

Background

The fate of the Areinnye is decided by the character after returning to their ship. The ship can be left to escape with or without its Borg technology, or it becomes hostile after removing its Borg technology. In the latter case, the vessel is destroyed.
