In the mirror universe, "ISS", referring to Imperial Starship, was a three-letter prefix appearing before the name of Terran Empire starships in Starfleet. This prefix was in use by the 22nd century. For instance, it appeared, and was spelled out, on the dedication plaque of the NX-class starship ISS Avenger NX-09 in the 2150s decade. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

In the 2260s, the ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701) carried the "ISS" prefix on the ship's hull, in contrast to the "USS" prefix of the USS Enterprise from the United Federation of Planets and Federation Starfleet in the primary universe. (TOS episode: "Mirror, Mirror")

In the 24th century, sometime after the decline of the Terran Empire, the ISS Defiant was operated by the Terran Rebellion in 2372. (DS9 episode: "Shattered Mirror")
