In 2369, Intendant Kira Nerys sent Ian through an Iconian gateway that the Alliance had recently discovered. His destination was Romulus, near to the Romulan empress; the Intendant was testing the capabilities of the gateway. Ian was killed by the Romulan Royal Guards and Kira simply asked Odo to send her another Terran slave. (ST novel: Dark Passions, Book One)
