Biography[]
Ian Kyle Riker was born in the year 2382. He was the son of the half-Betazoid woman Deanna Troi and her husband William T. Riker. Like his uncle Jean-Luc Picard, Ian carried an artificial heart.
Kyle Riker was the name of Will Riker's father. (TNG episode: "The Icarus Factor")
Ian Andrew Troi was Deanna Troi's father. (TNG episode: "Dark Page")
Ian Kyle Riker joined Starfleet and reached the rank of captain before "flying a desk" as a member of the admiralty. By the 2460s, he had lost his youngest child, his sister and his parents.
In that decade, the Federation was embroiled in the Second Romulan War. By then, Riker held the rank of fleet admiral. When he was eighty years old, "the atrocity on the edge of forever" occurred in 2462. Fleet Admiral Riker detested that moniker for the battle at the Rock of Ages. Captain Edward Sherwood of the USS Enterprise reported the destruction on of the Romulan orbital warbase by his ship, the USS Hood and the USS Exeter over subspace to Riker and his fellow admirals in San Francisco on Earth.
Following the briefing, Vice Admiral Vanderberg suggested Horta be settled on the Rock of Ages to protect the Guardian of Forever against Romulan attacks. Riker agreed with the idea.
In 2464, the Horta of Janus VI established a colony on the planet. (ST - Strange New Worlds VII short story: "Guardians")
