Illyria was a planet in the Illyria system, homeworld of the Illyrian civilization and the birthplace of Number One. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Glory, DSC novel: Desperate Hours)

History and specifics[]

According to an account discovered by Spock, sometime before Surak rose to prominence, Illyria was facing an environmental cataclysm that affected life on a genetic level, slowly making the planet uninhabitable. Contacted by the Vulcans, the Illyrians were subjected to genetic engineering. The modified Illyrians devolved into savage creatures that ruined the planet, though a minority who retained their intelligence managed to flee and colonize other worlds. Having gathered all the data they desired, the Vulcans left the planet but chose not to record this encounter in their archives. (SNW - The Illyrian Enigma comics: "Issue 3", "Issue 4")

In 2154, Enterprise (NX-01) encountered an Illyrian starship in the Delphic Expanse three light years from their home. (ENT episode: "Damage", ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Uncertain Logic)

It was unclear whether their home was actually Illyria or some other world.

Number One's grandfather had a farm on Illyria, where she enjoyed riding an antigravity skid. (TOS - Legacies novel: Purgatory's Key)

The Illyria system was located in Federation space, but sources have not yet specified Illyria's membership status.
