An intelligence officer, also intelligence specialist, was a member of staff specialized in intelligence (intel) and espionage. In the 25th century, the intelligence specialization was added to the primary commanding officer and bridge officer departments during the Alliance's Operation: Delta Rising. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

History and specifics[]

In the year 2410, the first officer of the Federation starship USS Voyager, Lieutenant Commander Kyla VanZyl, was an intelligence officer. Her Starfleet uniform was marked by a black department color. (STO - The Delta Quadrant mission: "Mindscape")

Intel starships were starships that included dedicated intel specialist bridge officer stations. Starfleet deployed three intel starship classes - the Eclipse-class intel cruiser, Phantom-class intel escort and Scryer-class intel science vessel - in the Delta Quadrant for Operation: Delta Rising. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Escalation")

Starfleet Intelligence was a department within Starfleet that operated lawfully, unlike the more grey operations of Section 31. Imperial Intelligence was the Klingon Empire's counterpart of SI, and Republic Intelligence the Romulan Republic service. (STO - Romulan Mystery mission: "The Vault")
