During the 2260s, Montgomery Scott sometimes joked about writing an article for the journal having to do with the mathematical gravitational attraction between lost objects and couch cushions. In the year 2270, he put his musings to the test, as he accidentally dropped a rebreather when he and other officers were drowning in a pool that had submerged furniture at the bottom. He did in fact find the rebreather in the couch cushions of the furniture. (TOS novel: No Time Like the Past)
