A dungeon was a type of prison, usually located beneath a castle.

In 2363, Soleta was placed in the dungeon of the Thallonian royal palace. She escaped with the assistance of Ambassador Spock. (NF novel: House of Cards) In 2373, Si Cwan and Zak Kebron were imprisoned in the dungeon. (NF novel: End Game) Gokron, the ruler of Plixes, kept prisoners in dungeons. James T. Kirk and Spock passed by them while being led to their executions. (TOS comic: "To Rule the Universe")

The Inquisitors called their dungeons, in which they tortured heretics and dissidents, "interrogation chambers". (TOS comic: "Day of the Inquisitors")

Quark had a holosuite program that recreated a dungeon. (DS9 novel: Fallen Heroes)
