The Iomidians were a humanoid civilization from the planet Iomides.
History and specifics[]
Physiology[]
Iomidians were fairly standard humanoids. Though their noses differed slightly to that of a human, rising straight halfway up the forehead, like a thick ridge. They also possessed a couple of extra ribs. (TNG novel: The Death of Princes)
History[]
By the 24th century, the Iomidians reached a development similar to the way Earth had been in the mid-twentieth century. At this time they were split into semi-belligerent nations that sniped at one another without causing too much devastation.
Their conflict with one another sparked the Iomidians’ industrial and technological progress, and raising the general social conscience of the natives. From there on there were peace marches, protests, and foreign aid, which also led to rising crime statistics and social tension.
Iomidians were ripe for a major change, and thus Starfleet had set up an observation team on Iomides. It was believed by Starfleet that all that was required was knowledge—no matter how rudimentary—of warp drive technology, and a planetary government.
However, there was a supposedly top-secret laboratory in the city of Mellim where a team of experts was on the verge of either discovering the first warp inversion field or of blowing themselves up.
With the research the Iomidians were doing on static warp fields, it was merely a matter of time before they stumbled onto a device like the Cochrane drive, and be out in interstellar space.
Currently now, the Iomidians had scientific probes exploring their own solar system and had managed to launch and recover several dozen orbital missions.
All that they lacked to become nominated for Federation membership was a unified planetary government. (TNG novel: The Death of Princes)
Culture[]
Their level of culture is approximately that of the late twentieth century on Earth with a few minor differences.
Iomidian style in clothing were quite relaxed if somewhat flashy. Men and women wore shirts and blouses that were ruffled about the neck and sleeves. Matched trousers or long skirts and swashbuckling knee-length boots. (TNG novel: The Death of Princes)
