An Iopene cutter was a type of weapon created with the technology of the long-dead civilization of the planet Iopene.

The Iopene technology was so devastating that, by the 23rd century, all the major galactic powers had outlawed such devices. The Iopene cutter in particular operated as a perfect cutting beam that could break any force shield by tunneling through with a precise counterphase, turning the shield's energy against itself.
