Iskel was a male Ferengi literary critic. He wrote a scathingly negative review of the book Vulcan Love Slave shortly after its release, calling it "excessively sexual" and causing its sales to soar. Iskel retired shortly afterward after accumulating a large fortune, leading to the theory that he was in fact the anonymous author of Vulcan Love Slave.
