Cannon batteries within the asteroid field.

The Iskonian asteroid field was an artificial asteroid field serving as a planetary defense system for Iskonia in the 22nd and 23rd centuries.

History and specifics[]

In the 22nd century, the Omnimind had the asteroid field fashioned after rebels launched a destress probe out into the system. It was made up of nine asteroids laden with hidden cannons set in peculiar orbital configurations to protect the planet from intruders.

In the year 2274, cannon batteries from the Iskonian asteroid field destroyed Klingon Commander Kolak's K't'inga-class battlecruiser, but Kolak and some of his crew managed to escape to the surface before being captured by robots of the Omnimind.

As the pursuing starship USS Enterprise approached the planet, her shields were able to withstand the bombardment, and phasers knocked out a few of the cannons before the barrage ceased and a hail was sent from Iskonia.

Unknown to the Enterprise crew, Omnimind robots were laying a trap for the landing party. They were intent on seizing technology capable of withstanding the cannons. (TOS comic: "Restructuring Is Futile")
