Jack Somers was a 22nd century Human man, a United Earth Starfleet officer in the 2150s.

Biography[]

Somers was the son of United Earth Starfleet Admiral Somers. In the 2150s, Somers was an engineer aboard the USS Slayton.

In 2159, the Slayton became trapped in a temporal anomaly in the Wagner-219 system. During that time, Somers was then named Chief Engineer and was able to keep the Slayton's systems from freezing up. However, on the 47th day of being trapped, Somers led a mutiny against Captain Bran Hendricks and stunned the first officer, Juliet Bashir. But Hendricks was able to broadcast a signal which showed Somer leading a mutiny. Somers' father believed he was dead, then founded Starfleet Academy in 2161 to ensure the future generations' safety. (SA - IDW Starfleet Academy comics: "Issue 3", "Issue 4")

Kelvin timeline[]

In 2261 , a group of Starfleet Academy cadets discovered Slayton in the anomaly. Somers put aside his frustration, surrendered his phase pistol to Hendricks, and worked with cadet T'Laan to devise an unusual configuration of the starship's deflector shields to act as a sail, harnessing a 200 teraton compression wave from the auto destruct of Starfleet cadet ship A-317's warp core into momentum. Somers manned the helm while the maneuver was executed and safely shifted them out of the anomaly. Somers then apologized to Hendricks for his actions.

One week later, Bashir stood beside his fellow crewmates during a ceremony to honor Slayton's recovery. (SA - IDW Starfleet Academy comic: "Issue 5")
