In 2376, the USS Exeter (NCC-26531) was under the command of Captain Venes. The Exeter was caught in a dead zone, and released when the Enterprise crew convinced the Black sphere to stop creating the dead zones. (TNG novel: Maximum Warp, book 1 & 2)
