James Wykoff was a male Human who lived in the 20th century. In the 1950s, he was a psychiatric doctor. One of his patients was Benny Russell.
After Russell began writing on the walls of his cell about Deep Space Nine, Wykoff wanted Russell to accept the setting and the characters were not real. Russell almost stopped writing about Benjamin Sisko's encounter with the Orb of the Emissary, but continued after attacking Wykoff. (DS9 episode: "Shadows and Symbols")
Wykoff kept a diary of his experiences with Russell. Wykoff had been discriminatory against African-Americans, but changed his views after his experiences with Russell. In 1968, he rued the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and thought it made the world of Deep Space Nine seem farther away than ever. (DS9 short story: "Isolation Ward 4")
Jack once experienced a vision of Wykoff, who was treating him. (DS9 short story: "Signal to Noise")
