The Jarol Desert was a region on the planet Kazar. It was formed between the 21st and 23rd centuries due to naturally shifting wind patterns diverting ocean moisture. In 2274, the Kazarites offered the Jarol Desert to the government-in-exile of the planet Mestiko and other Payav refugees.

Despite harsh conditions, the Payav and Kazarites were able to cultivate the Jarol Desert, with genetically engineered plants such as daggerleaf trees and kovna grain. Within six years, the Payav settlements in the desert were attracting more Payav wishing to escape the repressive rule of the mar-Atyya on Mestiko.
