Jas Abrik was a Trill male. His was once a member of Starfleet and held the rank of admiral.
Biography[]
In 2379, he served as Arafel Pagro's campaign manager and primary adviser for Pagro's candidacy for the Presidency of the United Federation of Planets.
He later became President Nan Bacco's Federation Security Advisor. Abrik was often at odds with Raisa Shostakova. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
During the invasion of the Borg Collective in 2381, Abrik was present at several Presidential staff meetings, including when President Bacco introduced Seven of Nine as his deputy to aid in the conflict. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night) Abrik later confided to President Bacco that he found Seven to be "castrating". (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
When the invasion reached critical levels, Abrik was involved in several high level meetings, including a Federation think tank led by Seven of Nine that also included members of various intelligence and command departments. Abrik chastised Seven for continually being critical of other suggestions and interrupting conversations, and was shocked that she suggested the use of a thalaron weapon to fight the Borg Collective. During a meeting at Starfleet Command, Abrik was horrified when Seven suggested abandoning the Milky Way Galaxy to the Borg and escaping via a subspace tunnel. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals)
As the Borg continued to push towards the core worlds, Abrik and Seven of Nine remained with President Bacco, providing regular updates on their progress, along with Starfleet admirals Akaar and Batanides. After the Borg were absorbed into the Caeliar gestalt, ending the Collective, Seven of Nine collapsed. Abrik initially diagnosed her as hyperventilating. When Bacco reached to inspect her, Abrik recommended caution, as her Borg implants were still known to be functional. Admiral Akaar reported word from Captain Jean-Luc Picard that the Borg threat was over forever; Abrik managed to stammer out a questioning "how". After President Bacco addressed the Federation, Abrik was amongst the advisors to meet with her immediately afterwards backstage; he deflected questions about how speechwriter Fred MacDougan and all his people had all ended up on the transport to Tiberius, but complimented her on including a Churchill homage. With the Borg out of the way, Abrik suggested that there was the potential for a period of instability; Bacco retorted that a water shortage on Draylax was an instability, and their current situation including loss of life and assets was much more. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
- Keith R.A. DeCandido has said he imagined Paul DooleyMA (Enabran Tain in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) when picturing Abrik.
