Jeannette Chao was a Human female. She was a member of Starfleet who served aboard the USS Defiant as its transporter chief.
Biography[]
In the early 2370s, Chao served aboard the USS Mjolnir with Prynn Tenmei. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)
In 2376, Chief Chao was responsible for beaming the Europani onto the Defiant during the evacuation of Europa Nova. She later beamed Nog and Thirishar ch'Thane off the USS Sungari before it was destroyed. (DS9 - Gateways novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
In January 2377, Chao beamed Elias Vaughn, Lisa Neeley, Calvin Moore and Darrell Gervasi down to the planet Harkoum. (DS9 novel: Warpath)
As of 2383, Chao had been promoted to lieutenant commander and was chief engineer of Deep Space 9. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)
During the evacuation and subsequent explosion of Deep Space 9, it is assumed Chao was caught in the explosion as it was later thought by Captain Ro Laren that a lot of friends had been lost, including Chao herself. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)
