The word jerk was a common insult in Federation Standard, often used as a noun by Humans, directed towards those with poor social skills. In Tellarite culture, the mode of behavior of a well-adjusted Tellarite individual could closely be described with this word, leading Tellarites to take it as a compliment when they are referred to as being jerks.
