Jeyal

Jeyal in 2372

Jeyal was a male Tavnian who met married Lwaxana Troi around 2372. Troi described him as "the most willful man" she had ever met.

Lwaxana later became pregnant with Jeyal's child. Jeyal had agreed with Troi that since she was Betazoid the strict Tavnian laws regarding children would not apply. However, he changed his mind and told her he would take the child from her and raise him himself, as in Tavnian society boys were raised by men and girls by women.

Troi later escaped from Jeyal's home, although he later followed her to Deep Space 9. Odo read about Tavnian law and discovered that a male child is the property of a woman's husband, not specifying that he had to also be its father. Odo then proposed to Lwaxana, preparing for a quick wedding ceremony.

Jeyal initially expressed his scepticism that Odo loved Lwaxana, but Odo's heartfelt speech about how meeting Lwaxana had changed his life also changed Jeyal's mind. He asked her to take care of his son and to speak well of him when he asked about his father. (DS9 episode: "The Muse")

Jeyal's son Barin was born in 2373. Deanna Troi had still not met Jeyal by 2379. (TNG novel: A Time to Hate)
