Jimmy Clayton was a 23rd century Human man, a Starfleet officer and versatile pilot assigned to the the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the late 2260s decade.

History[]

In the year 2269, Clayton spent three weeks studying microtapes in preparation to pilot the class S-4 aquashuttle NCC-1701/5A underwater on the planet Argo. He found atmospheric flight rough and it took him a few minutes to adjust. After he landed, but before James T. Kirk, Spock and Leonard McCoy could start taking samples, the shuttle was attacked by a sur-snake. Clayton stunned it with phasers, then submerged the craft so they could take a closer look. The animal revived quickly and came at the shuttle again. Clayton quickly departed the area at high speed, but the creature pursued and grabbed the shuttle. Clayton and McCoy were thrown clear, but Kirk and Spock were trapped when the wreckage disappeared underwater.

Five days after the incident, Clayton piloted a boat for McCoy and Montgomery Scott during their search and rescue operations. He spotted the crumpled remains of the aquashuttle two miles away with binoculars. Kirk and Spock were found lying unconscious nearby. (TAS episode & Log Five novelization: The Ambergris Element)

In 2270, Clayton landed the shuttlecraft Kepler on the planet Gateway. He delivered a security detachment that was assigned to defend the Guardian of Forever against Klingons. Later, at Spock's warning, the security officers retreated. From orbit, Clayton witnessed the IKS Gr'oth crash into the Guardian. (TOS - Crucible novel: Provenance of Shadows)

Clayton's first name was provided in Provenance of Shadows.
