Jinks' planet

Jinks' planet was an otherwise unnamed planet located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant along the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone border about two parsecs from a black hole.

History and specifics[]

The world had a breathable atmosphere. Flowering plants and small reptilian animals lived on the surface, which featured mountains, valleys, caverns, and lakes. Fish and dangerous, man-eating octopus-gorilla creatures resided in its aquatic environments.

In the 2260s decade, it was the site of a small Federation outpost, with just Professor Jinks being stationed there.

In the late 2260s, a Klingon force occupied the outpost, imprisoning Jinks and using the facility to construct a new Klingon weapon, a large, maneuverable asteroid field composed of an unknown element that shields could not block. This apparent meteor storm was directed away from the planet into a region of Federation space two parsecs away.

In 2270, the Federation starship USS Enterprise encountered the meteor storm and voyaged to the planet. After entering orbit, Jinks apparently invited them down but provided questionable coordinates of 33.51.62, which Spock determined was an underground site full of solid rock. The real Jinks was found confined in a cave by a group of Klingons — the other Jinks was an imposter responsible for building the meteors. (TOS - Which Way Books novel: Phaser Fight)
