Joe is a character in the Dixon Hill stories. He is a newspaper salesman.
History[]
In 2364, Jean-Luc Picard, Data, and Whalen interacted with a hologram of Joe while running the Dixon Hill program The Big Good-Bye on the holodeck of the USS Enterprise-D. Joe ran a newsstand, thought Carlos had "a nice tan", and said Dix could pay him for a copy of the San Francisco Herald the next time they met. (TNG episode: "The Big Goodbye")
In 2369, Picard and Beverly Crusher interacted with Joe again in the holonovel The Rich and the Dead. Picard bought a paper from Joe, who hadn't seen Dix in a while. When "Dix" explained that he'd been on the bridge, Joe took it to mean the Golden Gate Bridge. (TNG comic: "The Rich and the Dead!")
- He went unnamed in the episode, but the episode's script called the newsstand "Joe's News and Magazines". He was named in the comic.
