For other uses, see Jones.

John Paul Jones (July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was a famed male Human naval fighter in the 18th century, during the American Revolution.

In 2286, as he considered the end of his career, Captain James T. Kirk wondered if it would end clouded by political intrigue as Jones's had, or heroically like Horatio Nelson's. (TOS novel: Timetrap)

Leonard McCoy quoted Jones, saying "Give me a fast ship, and I'll put her in harm's way," as a way of encouraging his friend Admiral Jo Stern after a frustrating conversation with Brett Ryan of the United Earth Police. (CoE eBook: Ghost)

The Mission-class USS John Paul Jones was presumably named for this celebrated commander. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)
