For the primary universe counterpart, see José Mendez.

In the mirror universe, José Mendez was a male Terran officer in the Imperial Starfleet during the 23rd century.

History[]

In 2267, Captain James T. Kirk contacted Admiral Mendez to explain that it was his primary universe counterpart that defied the orders of Starfleet Command. Despite it being the truth, it seemed too far-fetched for Mendez to believe.

Kirk ordered his communications officer, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, to verify his statement for the Admiral. When she refused, Kirk threatened to throw Uhura into an agony booth personally. At this, Admiral Mendez ordered Kirk to stop and for security to seize the Captain.

After Spock had Kirk thrown in the brig, he spoke with Admiral Mendez and suggested that delaying actions against the Halkans and determine whether or not they were involved in Kirk's plans. Due to Captain Spock's exemplary service record, Mendez considers his request but warned him that it set a dangerous precedent for the future.

Admiral Mendez then ordered Kirk to be stripped of all rank and privileges, effective immediately. He instructed for the former captain be turned over to the ISS Enterprise security unit to determine any and all plans Kirk had already set into motion, by any means necessary.
