Biography
Hayes came from a military family that dated its military service all of the way back to Earth's second world war. His father prepared him all of his life for a military career, and eventaully he graduated from West Point and became an officer of the Military Assault Command Organization.
A family man himself and veteran of pirate-fighting in the Janus Pirate Wars, Hayes was selected to lead the MACO unit of thirty-six soilders assigned to assist the Enterprise in dealing with the Xindi threat following the attack of 2153. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure; ENT episode: "Hatchery")
One of his missions during the Xindi conflict was accompanying Captain Jonathan Archer to the planet Kaletoo, following up on a lead on the Xindi.
Hayes was killed near the end of the Xindi mission on an operation to rescue Ensign Hoshi Sato from a Xindi-Reptilian vessel during the assault on the Xindi weapon that has been launched to destroy Earth by the Reptilians and Insectoids. (ENT novel: Last Full Measure; ENT episode: "Countdown")
