Jym Ggavittchh was a 23rd century Tellarite man, a legendary master merchant and well-regarded Chairman of the Board of the UFP/Independent Traders Association.

Biography[]

One tale of his exploits, believed apocryphal, what that when his freighter Fflaad was boarded by an Orion pirate starship, Ggavittchh managed to beguile his way out of being marooned.

In the 2260s, He was serving as vice-chair of the UFP/ITA when Chair Sarah Hastings died in office on reference stardate 2/0609.17. In her honor, his first act as chairman was to found the Sarah Hastings Memorial Program, an apprenticeship merchant training regimen for frontier territories.

On reference stardate 2/0902, Ggavittchh mitigated economic damage from the Great Crash of 09, strengthening independent trade in the Organian Treaty Zone and the Triangle sector. He also worked toward incorporating Gorn trade into the Federation.

On reference stardate 2/1111 he turned down a sixth year in office to resume his career as a trader. However, he agreed to return after his disgraced successor Boris Falsworth was arrested. Accepting the nomination on reference stardate 2/1512, he served for several more years.

He died of natural causes while in office in the late 2270s, on reference stardate 2/2010.06. His successor Bernard Reynolds decribed Ggavittchh as "a great leader whose gruff and blustering manner could not conceal his concern for his brother and sister traders."

Paul Jesse wrote a brief biography of Ggavittchh, which was featured in a sidebar to "A Capsule History of Interstellar Trade" in Spacelanes magazine in 2289. An accompanying article by Jesse, "The Independent Merchant", included a few of Ggavittchh's quotes and described one of his legendary exploits.
