Kachissat, also known as Daran V, was a planet located in sector 54R, in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the fifth planet in orbit of the Daran star system. By the 23rd century, Daran V was within the boundaries of the space of the Federation.

Specifics[]

Kachissat is the homeworld of a civilization of avianoids known as the Shesshran. The planet has a dense atmosphere, with an atmospheric pressure 3.4 times Earth-normal, and gravity force 1.65 times that of most standard class M planets. (TOS novel: Ex Machina, ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

It generally had a temperate climate and abundant metal ores. (FASA RPG modules: The Federation, Old Soldiers Never Die)

Daran V was the homeworld of Federation President Hiram Roth. (Stardate Magazine vol. 3, Issue 5: "UFP Personnel File: Star Trek IV Update")

The Federation starship USS Daran V was named after this location.

History[]

10,000 years ago, the planet was home to a species of avians known as the Tishiki. When the Fabrina star went supernova, Kachissat was devastated by the explosion, and many of the Tishiki died in the aftermath. Those who survived became known as the Shesshran, and spent the interim time rebuilding their technology. (TOS novel: Ex Machina, ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

In 2268, the crew of the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise diverted the generation ship Yonada from colliding with Daran V. (TOS episode & Star Trek 8 novelization: For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky)

Shortly afterward, the Federation ship Yang Liwei visited Daran V, aiding Shesshran archeologists to locate records of ancient contact between the Tishiki and Fabrini. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)

By the 2280s decade, a Federation freeport colony on the planet imported raw materials for manufacturing high-tech goods and permitted about 30 Orion firms to operate there. Daran V had a technological/sociopolitical index of 998983-76 and a planetary trade profile of CAFEBCF/G (A). (FASA RPG modules: The Federation, Old Soldiers Never Die)

Being located in Starfleet Intelligence sector 3, in the 2280s Daran V hosted a Starfleet Intelligence base for the SI Romulan sector. The starship USS Sparon visited Daran V, and the Free Trader freighter Abelard was noted as traveling to Daran V. (FASA RPG modules: Star Fleet Intelligence Manual, Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update, Where Has All the Glory Gone?)

In 2363, Jean-Luc Picard visited Daran V before returning to Starbase 324 as part of his role in Starfleet Tactical’s Long-range Threat Assessment and Response Division. (TLE novel: The Buried Age)
