Kahless was an uninhabited planet located in an unremarkable star system in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics[]
Kahless was the lone planet in orbit of a single star and lacked mineral wealth or strategic value. Its terrain included mountains, meadows, and sandy beaches. Lifeforms included seagull-like birds, mussels and crabs. It was named for Kahless the Unforgettable.
In 2268, Commodore Kor's Klingon battlecruiser visited the planet. Kor had been conducting cloaking device tests and had cloaked the planet's moon. When the starship USS Enterprise showed up to examine the planet, Kor was forced to name it and claim it for the Klingon Empire to draw attention away from his tests. An Enterprise landing party discovered nothing on the surface to explain Klingon interest.
While beaming back, a spatial anomaly affected the transporter. James T. Kirk, Spock and Leonard McCoy swapped places with actors William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley. Nimoy observed that Kahless had tides, and further investigation exposed Kor's invisible moon. (TOS - The New Voyages short story: "Visit to a Weird Planet Revisited")
