Biography[]
Starfleet career[]
In June of the year 2376, Merimark, then a young ensign, served as a junior tactical officer under the command of Commander Elias Vaughn during the Defiant's three month exploratory mission in the Gamma Quadrant.
In the second week of the mission, Merimark manned the tactical station on the bridge during the destruction of the Vahni Vahltupali moon and subsequent earthquakes on the homeworld. She served as tactical and communications officer, contacting the planetside away teams and reporting casualties to first officer Ezri Dax. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight)
In July, Merimark took the secondary tactical console on Defiant's bridge during the defense of a D'Naali starship from its Nyazen pursuer. She later manned the transporter room and beamed Nog from the D'Naali ship—where he was assisting with repairs—to sickbay when his body rejected his biosynthetic leg. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Cathedral)
By the 2380s decade, Merimark had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
In 2383, Merimark was running diagnostics on DS9's reactors when she noticed that power had increased to cool the compartment in one of the reactors, which indicated someone was in the compartment itself. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)
Following the destruction of DS9, Merimark was assigned to Bajoran Space Central along with many of the surviving personnel. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)
Personal life[]
Merimark was close friends with Gerda Roness who died during the Defiant's Gamma Quadrant mission in 2376. She mourned the loss of Gerda on the Vahni Vahltupali homeworld, the planet Roness died saving. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight)
During the mission, Merimark became steadfast friends with Ezri Dax.
Merimark was known to be somewhat volatile at times. Her friends and colleagues, including Prynn Tenmei and Nog, tried to stay on her good side - especially when she didn't have access to Mikaela Leishman's candy stash. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Cathedral)
Merimark had a particular relationship with Elias Vaughn in that he had taken to calling her "Stefka" rather than Kaitlin. (DS9 novel: Warpath, ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)
