Captain Kalan was a 23rd century Klingon, the commanding officer of the dreadnought IKS Terror in 2268.
Kalan nearly lost his command after an attempted mutiny by the crew. Although the crew was affected by the jewel from Alnath II, Kalan still had the mutineers executed for challenging his command. (TOS novel: The Klingon Gambit)
