Kam Gavron was a female Cardassian and the daughter of Gul Gavron.

History[]

Kam Gavron grew up on Cardassia, with her parents and older brother and lived a comfortable life as a daughter of a distinguished military captain. However, life as Gul Gavron's daughter was not always pleasant as her father was abusive towards her family, leading to a difficult childhood. However, Gavron believed that his daughter was far more similar to him that her brother and thus sought to groom Kam to follow in his footsteps. Like many Cardassians she was raised to believe that the Federation was a collection of warmongers out to destroy the Cardassians. Unsatisfied with this propaganda, Kam was determined to see for herself if the Federation was the monster her people and father claimed to be.

In 2370 on her birthday, her father brought her to the spacedocks and she was left with a Cardassian officer named Tak who showed her a few freighters on their way to Deep Space 9. When her father returned to berate Tak, Kam stowed away on one of the ships heading to Deep Space 9. When she arrived Kam hid in the ventilation ducts, where she researched on Bajor and its history with Cardassia. To survive she stole clothes from Garak's store and utilized the school's replicators. Her constant tinkering of the replicators attracted the attention of Keiko O'Brien's class who discovered her hiding place. She begged the students not to reveal her to the station personnel as she believed her father would kill her if he found out she disobeyed him.

She befriended the students who agreed to help her, and Jake Sisko brought news of her presence to his father. However, Riv Jakar had been overhearing their conversation and decided to take matters in his own hands. At the same time her father, who believed she had been kidnapped, had tracked her whereabouts leading a fleet of eight Galor-class battleships. Meanwhile Riv attacked her, dragging her above the Promenade, and forced her to walk on the ceiling beams hoping to kill her by pushing her off. Commander Sisko, Odo, Jake and Nog managed to convince him that no good would come of her death and Kam also was willing to sacrifice her freedom to protect her friends, making Riv struggle with his conscience. When Riv nearly fell to his death, Kam saved him proving to him not all Cardassians were evil. To avoid publicly humiliating Gul Gavron, Riv conjectured a story that Kam came to Deep Space 9 as a spy to make her father proud. Her story satisfied Gul Gavron who agreed to cease the attack on the station in exchange for his daughter. Before Kam left she promised that she would tell other Cardassians of the truth.
