Kangaroo

A kangaroo.

A kangaroo was a type of animal, an herbivorous marsupial native to Earth. Similar species were found on other planets.

History and specifics[]

Kangaroos, koalas, and wallaby evolved in and around Australia. (TOS novelization: The Voyage Home; TOS novel: Death's Angel)

Mammals resembling six-legged kangaroos were native to Gribbin II. (TOS comic: "The Alone")

Huanni had ears like those of a kangaroo. (VOY - Spirit Walk novel: Old Wounds)

An animal resembling a kangaroo rat, but with the bill of a platypus, was native to Elysium. (TOS novel: Burning Dreams)

In the 2260s, an epidemic on Earth was fatal to kangaroos and several other wildlife species. In 2267, the USS Enterprise was assigned to retrieve some kangaroos from other planets in order to repopulate them on Earth. The crew also brought back members of bear, camel, chimpanzee, hippopotamus, leopard, parrot, platypus, rhinoceros, tiger, turtle, and zebra species. (TOS - A Book to Color comic: "Third story")

In 2286, the HMS Bounty's computer attempted to identify the Cetacean probe's transmissions. Among the Earth animals it crosschecked were the sounds of a kangaroo. (TOS movie: The Voyage Home)

In 2370, Trelane materialized a number of stuffed animals aboard the USS Enterprise-D, including a female kangaroo whose feet hit a security guard in the head. (TNG novel: Q-Squared)
