Kappa Rho was an M type red giant star with an associated system located in or near Federation space, somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.

Kappa Rho's orbit included a number of planets, including fourth planet Kappa Rho IV.
In 2277, the starship USS Enterprise visited the system to make a preliminary survey of its fourth planet. (TOS - Star Trek II Short Stories short story: "Intelligence Test")
- This system's name simply contains two Greek language letters: kappa and rho, without any other stellar notation system's point of reference regarding its location.
