The Kargon Incident was an incident of Klingon aggression against the United Federation of Planets in 2277. Three Federation vessels and an outpost were destroyed.

Specifics[]

On reference stardate 2/1803, a force of six D18B Lara'atan-class destroyers commanded by Kresz sutai-Kargon assaulted an outpost in the Orion sector. Kargon took three destroyers to warp, leaving behind as bait one destroyer that was severely damaged and two others with minor damage. When the USS Kongo, USS Halk and USS Rome responded to the outpost's distress signal, Kongo approached too close to the weakest destroyer. It suddenly self destructed, the blast ripping off Kongo's starboard warp nacelle. Kargon then dropped his other three ships out of warp and wrecked both the Kongo and Halk. Rome fought back before it was lost. (FASA RPG modules: Klingon Ship Recognition Manual, The Klingons: Star Fleet Intelligence Manual)

Kargon's attack was the most well-known Starfleet encounter with Lara'atan-class destroyers. (FASA RPG module: Klingon Ship Recognition Manual)

Repercussions[]

This incident led Rear Admiral James T. Kirk to believe the Organians were considering an end to enforcing the Organian Peace Treaty and that preparations for war might prove prudent. Part of these preparations were the creation of the Operation Armageddon war games scenario. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)

Kargon was rewarded with command of the IKV Deathless Glory, an L42B Great Bird-class frigate equipped with a cloaking device. (FASA RPG module: The Dixie Gambit)
