Lieutenant Karl Jaeger was a meteorologist and planetologist who was assigned to the USS Enterprise in the 2260s.
History[]
In 2264, Kirk suggested Jaeger take over for Spock when he told him to get some rest. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)
In 2266, Jaeger was part of a fifteen-man survey team that was assigned to Tlaoli IV. When the team discovered a number of wrecked starships on the planet's surface, Jaeger gathered all the lieutenants together and they all decided to send a team into the caves to investigate. Jaeger led the team himself, but they soon lost contact with the other teams due to the transperiodic ores on Tlaoli IV's surface. (TOS - The Janus Gate novel: Present Tense)
In 2267, Jaeger accompanied a landing party to the surface of Gothos to search for the missing Captain Kirk, after he was captured by the omnipotent being known as Trelane. Trelane recognized Jaeger's name's national origin, gave a smart salute and spoke to him in German, saying "Ein Deutsch Soldat, nein? Ein, zwei, drei, vier, gehen wir mit dem Schießgewehr!", while miming a military march. In response to Trelane's question ("A German soldier, no?"), Jaeger replied that his specialty was as a scientist, not as a military man. (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos")
In 2268, Jaeger was part of a survey team that was assigned to Mu Arigulon V, where he studied the planet's atmosphere. (TOS novel: A Choice of Catastrophes)
