Kefford was a 23rd century Human man. He served as a helmsman aboard the Federation guardship Dorado under the command of Captain Louis Jago in 2265.

History[]

In 2265, Kefford backed Erhard Voss's plan to mutiny, telling Voss they were ready as soon as he gave the word. When they struck, he knocked down at least one officer with a baton.

Kefford manned the helm when the starship USS Enterprise approached, and Voss ordered him to jettison all main fuel. Missiles fired from Enterprise ignited the fuel and disabled the starship, letting the guardship escape.

Kefford urged caution as they approached Scaptar, leading to a parley with a Klingon envoy aboard a Klingon transit-hopper shuttlecraft.

Later, when Dorado headed on an attack course for the planet Necros, Kefford reported that their shields were still up after an initial defensive bombardment. Then Kefford's screens showed that the ship was turning away from Necros and, believing the helm was malfunctioning, Voss quickly ordered the ship to reverse course. The screens had been sabotaged by Spock with Horek's help, leading to the capture of the mutineers. (TOS comic: "Mutiny on the Dorado")

Kefford did not wear a Starfleet uniform and appeared to serve in a non-Starfleet border patrol service.
