Yeoman Keiko Tamura was a 23rd century Human woman, an enlisted Starfleet crewmember serving aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s decade.

Biography[]

Tamura served in Starfleet's operations division, sometimes performing duty on the Enterprise bridge.

Tamura was on the bridge when the Enterprise approached Eminiar VII in the year 2267, and she was tapped by Captain James T. Kirk to join a landing party to the world. When the team was captured by the Eminians, she assisted in Kirk and Spock's plans to escape and overpower their captors. Tamura, in particular, was instrumental in restraining the Eminian Mea 3. (TOS episode: "A Taste of Armageddon")

Yeoman Tamura helped Jean Czerny prepare for reflexive hand-to-hand combat that would be required of her as a deep-cover operative in the Klingon Empire. During the mission, Tamura's off hours included listening to Nyota Uhura play part of a musical version of Tarbolde's Nightingale Woman, a Balinese temple song and an African lullaby. (TOS novel: Pawns and Symbols)

Tamura was checking on a Klingon general staying in guest quarters aboard the Enterprise when she found the general gone and the body of Ensign Brown dead in the room. (TOS - Invasion! novel: First Strike)

Background[]

Tamura was spelled "Tamula" in the episode credits, but dialogue and the script said "Tamura". The character was played by actress Miko MayamaMA. Tamura's rank was not alluded to in any English source, but the German language dubbed episode in the Raumschiff Enterprise series referred to her as "corporal", clarifying her status as an enlisted NCO.
