Keldon-class warships were a type of starship introduced by the Cardassian Union in the late 2340s decade. (DS9 episodes: "Defiant", "The Die is Cast")
Specifications[]
The Keldon series enlarged and improved upon the successful Galor-class design to better counter a new generation of designs by the Federation's Starfleet and other antagonistic states. Starfleet first encountered these vessels in the year 2371, by which time the Cardassians had built a considerable number of these ships. The Keldons were the top Cardassian ships of the Dominion War. (Decipher RPG module: Starships) The Keldon advanced was a faster variant of the Galor-class. These improved ships were under the command of the Obsidian Order who based them in the Orias system. (DS9 episode: "Defiant")
Some variants of the Keldon class starships possessed cloaking devices. They were also capable of overloading their own plasma banks to create more powerful weapon discharges. (ST video game: Armada II)
History[]
The class was in service by 2348. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves)
In 2371, the Obsidian Order constructed a fleet of Keldon-class starships. The Maquis thought the fleet was to be used to attack the Demilitarized Zone and so Tom Riker hijacked the USS Defiant to prove this. The fleet was actually to be used by the Obsidian Order in a joint invasion with the Romulan Tal Shiar to attack the Dominion. (DS9 episodes: "Defiant", "The Die is Cast")
In 2372, a Keldon-class starship was attacked by the Klingons in orbit of Lazon II. (DS9 short story: "Promises Made")
Mirror universe[]
In 2379, the Obsidian Order assembled a fleet of Keldon-class starships to attack the Terran Rebellion at Bajor. (MU novel: Rise Like Lions)
