Crewman Kenneth Dalby was a former Maquis who was forced to join the Starfleet crew of the USS Voyager when it became stranded in the Delta Quadrant in 2371.
Biography[]
Dalby was born on Dreon VII in 2335, and as a child expressed a keen interest in science and engineering.
At the age of 18 he entered the Federation Institute of Technology and studied propulsion engineering. In 2359, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. After completing his degree he was employed as a commercial engineer at the spaceport on Firimar III. He proved to be very popular at the spaceport and was recognized for his hard-work in 2364, when he was awarded as "Employee of the Year".
By early 2365, Dalby had grown tired of his job at the spaceport and accepted the offer of a job of assistant chief engineer aboard the Federation freighter, SS Gryphon. Again he proved very successful aboard the Gryphon, and was promoted to chief engineer in 2366.
Even though he was pursuing his career as an engineer, Dalby still had time for love, and in 2367 he married a Bajoran woman, Paola Calderon. However, their marriage was short-lived when she was raped and murdered by Cardassians in 2369. Dalby became so angry and incenced at his wife's murder, that he was looking to fight anyone. He soon joined the Maquis and served with Chakotay as assistant engineer. (ST video game: Starship Creator; VOY episode: "Learning Curve")
When the Val Jean was pulled into the Delta Quadrant in 2371, Dalby had to adapt to life aboard Voyager, which he found rather difficult. He was labelled as insubordinate by Lieutenant Tuvok and was forced to undergo some rigorous Starfleet Academy-style training scenarios to enhance his performance. (VOY episode: "Learning Curve")
Alternate timeline[]
In one alternate timeline, Dalby was serving at an auxiliary engineering station on the bridge in January 2374 when Voyager witnessed a Species 8472 assault on a Borg-occupied star system. When one of the Species 8472 battleships proceeded to pursue and attack Voyager, Dalby reported that the ship's warp field was destabilizing. Shortly after, Dalby was killed when the ship's severed starboard nacelle collided with the bridge. (VOY - Infinity's Prism novel: Places of Exile)
