Kentucky is a region of the North American continent on the planet Earth, with boundaries that were created as the area was settled as a geopolitical subdivision of the United States of America nation.

History and specifics[]

Leonard McCoy once described Kentucky as "the home of fine bourbon, pretty women, and fast horses". In the Kelvin timeline, Leonard McCoy said, "Think bluegrass. Quiet caves. Real food." (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge, TOS novelization: Star Trek (2009))

Kentucky was famous for breeding horses, and a celebrated horse race, the Kentucky Derby, was held there annually at least through the late 23rd century. (TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge)

Kentucky bourbon was an alcoholic beverage produced in Kentucky, and a favorite of both McCoy and William T. Riker. (ST - The Modala Imperative comic: "In Memory Yet Green...")

Another of McCoy's favorite drinks, the mint julep, originated from this part of Earth. (TOS episode: "This Side of Paradise")

Kentucky bluegrass music was considered old-fashioned by the 23rd century. (TOS novel: The Weight of Worlds)

In 2271, while McCoy was eating at a family restaurant in Fox Chase, Kentucky, two Starfleet Security officers beamed into the restaurant and kept him there until Admiral James T. Kirk arrived to ask him for help. (TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: Shadows of the Indignant)
