FoodSynthesis

Food synthesis in a replicator.

Ketchup was a type of food condiment made by the Human civilization of the planet Earth, typically using tomatoes and vinegar with spices, sweetened with honey or syrup.

History and specifics[]

Ketchup was a popular condiment to be put on hot dogs. (DS9 novel: The 34th Rule, DS9 - Strange New Worlds 9 short story: "Living on the Edge of Existence")

Nyota Uhura, Pavel Chekov and Hikaru Sulu, who were being hunted by assassins, stowed away aboard the partially-disassembled USS Enterprise and tried to coax edible food out of an unfinished food synthesizer. It made them a plate of tortellini, although in place of the normal sauce, a tomato sauce or marinara, the confused machine provided the dish covered with ketchup instead. (TOS - The Lost Years novel: Traitor Winds)
